about

Before the coronavirus pandemic swept the U.S. in March I wrote this song for someone close to me going through a very difficult time. It's jarring to me to consider how different our realities were just a few months ago. Our way of life has been altered by a global pandemic and more recently, our nation was rattled to it's core by the public murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police. My hope is that we can individually and collectively use the energy, emotion, and education that this turbulent time has given us to evoke drastic, positive change. The voices of progress have reached a deafening level that I hope will carry us through the 2020 elections and into a brighter future for our nation.

100% of the proceeds from your downloads of "This Time Next Year" will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, a national organization that has a long history of enacting racial justice and change through litigation, advocacy, and public education.

Here’s ‘This Time, Next Year’, recorded alone & acoustic. It is simply a message about retaining hope and greater perspective during hardship. I hope it helps someone out today. #blacklivesmatter #thistimenextyear – Taylor Scott (June 2020)

"This Time Next Year" - Lyrics and Music by Taylor Scott

I can’t wait to hear your voice
Clear and bright again
I can’t wait to hear your voice
Clear and bright again
Dancing on the air between us
And sailing in the wind

There’s a broken wing at each corner of your smile
That only some can see
There’s a broken wing at each corner of your smile
That only some can see
But someday soon they’re gonna heal up and
Fly easy and free

(Chorus)
Mama don’t you cry
Cause time is flying by
I understand your fears
We’ve made it this far
It won’t be so hard
When we stand right here
This time, next year

These things feel so hard at first
Like driving into a sunrise
These things feel so hard at first
Like driving into a sunrise

Your heart
It needs time to adjust
Just like your eyes

A day is born and grows around you
So pick a hopeful tune
There’s somewhere new that we belong
And we will get there soon
So keep your mind free and your eyes peeled
And drive toward next June

(Chorus)
Mama don’t you cry
Cause time is flying by
I understand your fears
We’ve made it this far
It won’t be so hard
When we stand right here
This time, next year

(Bridge)
I’ve never known such sadness second hand
But I have wept for you more than I can stand
We’re gonna get it together and turn this thing around

Next year just about this time
We won’t be so down

Chorus x2
